mimi and i leave for costa rica tonight! yay! i'm tired and sore and have been butt-ass busy (also, we took some summers horseback riding yesterday, and my butt is sore and hurting), and cannot wait to have nothing to do. or, rather, stuff to do, but not so much to worry about. here's to not getting robbed or falling off a canopy zip line.
cheers! i promise to post pictures when i get back.
as i was trudging through my day, i got an unexpected call from ayumi, who was downtown serving jury duty. so as a surprise treat i got to have lunch with ayumi, and we went to the bbq king. mm... bbq king. we shared a sampler of hot links, ribs, chicken, and something else i don't remember, and had fries, collard greens and biscuits/cornbread. we also shared a peach cobbler. granted, we only ate, like, a third of the food, but mm... i'm all full now. and reeking of barbeque. i'm sure everyone around me loves this. but yay! now i 'm all food-coma-sleepy, but in a happier mood. thanks, ayumi!
//k brought me last year's pumpkin pictures a while ago. yay pumpkins! here are some carving pictures. the evening was full of festivities and drunken knivery.

so. somehow, document review is nowhere near as glamourous as i thought it would be. okay, fine. i knew it would not be glamourous. i also knew it would be boring. i guess i didn't fully grasp how boring. but at the very least, i have a nice flat screen monitor now. and it's pretty mellow -- enough to say that, having only done it for an hour and a half, i kind of like it.
i'm sore. not from working out, but from drinking last night. i'm sure i've articulated this before, but i think it's sad that, since drinking can make you feel sore as if you've worked out the night before, it doesn't also burn calories and build muscle. anyway.
last night mimi had her "color-me-mimi" birthday party. she put out a table in the back with acrylic paints and brushes and a roll of butcher paper so people could make a birthday mural for her. i thought it was pretty cool, but one guy decided to make a wash to bring everything together, and for the first third that he did this he basically smeared blue paint over everything, obliterating the eclectic and individualistic artwork below. i thought it was sad, but the second portion he did looked fairly cool.
at any rate, the party was fun. mimi's brother, sister, and brother-in-law drove down from sacramento and surprised her. it was really cute. they'd all rsvp'd no, and then staggered their entrances. her sister came first, and mimi was all surprised, and then her sister's husband came half an hour later, and mimi's sister pretended that she also was surprised (he said he got off work early, so he decided to come down as a surprise). finally, mimi's brother came in (this was the only surprise i actually got to witness). he just kind of came in and hung around the chips and mimi didn't notice him for a while. i gave her some bbq to go put on the table and she walked up right next to him and kind of motioned for him to get out of her way without looking up to see who it was, and then was all surprised when she turned around. it was pretty cute.
an entire party-sized huge bottle of tequila was consumed through the course of the evening, on top of all the other alcoholic beverages.
sahar brought an awesome marble birthday cake.
tarot readings were delivered by mimi's friend toward the end of the evening.
i have to get back to work. i'll post some pictures later.
i had never shopped at brooks brothers before because they always seemed so conservative and stuffy. however, today my coworker told me that they have these non-iron shirts (similar to the wrinkle resistant eddie bauer shirts you told me about di, but i couldn't find any women's ones when i went), AND that they are having a 50% off sale. so they are really nice dress shirts that have a PERMANENT crease (so they always look pressed), which you can crumple into a ball, throw into your suitcase, and then hang overnight and have them look totally pressed. you can MACHINE WASH them, throw them in the dryer for 10 minutes, and then hang dry them, and they look all pressed and creased. amazing!
there is a brooks brothers right across the street, so i just went. i bought 4 shirts. at 50% off, the 3/4 length shirts and the short sleeved shirt i bought were around $30-40. for a pricey brooks brothers shirt that's usually $75-80! i am so excited. and THAT is what i did with the last hour rather than work.
"Stories from the trenches, by a fictional hiring partner at a large law firm in a major city."
nice.
(see that //k? that's what you've got to look forward to!)
just so //k won't yell at me.
let's see... last weekend i went to see wicked! it was amazing. it is one of the few adaptations i can think of where they changed a whole lot of the plot but it didn't bother me. the book was too complicated to be a musical, and their changes were nice touches. my only complaint was that a couple of the songs were a little long, especially given how freaking long the musical was already. toward the end i was like, alright, alright, you're better for knowing her, i get it! but i did love it.
seeing wicked prompted me to buy the soundtrack, and with it the soundtrack for avenue q, which brought back to mind my favorites, "if you were gay" and "everyone's a little bit racist." ah, avenue q. i can't wait for it to hit LA.
this past weekend i... went to the batting cages with //k, and SUCKED. like, big time sucked. it was very depressing -- last time i was pretty good, and i was like, hey, alright, i haven't held a bat in 8 years but i can still hit pretty well! well... not anymore. also in the weekend i got a haircut, went shopping, gambled (tripled my buy-in on poker night), hung out with my mom, slept in, went swimming, went to a barbeque and then went to another barbeque where we attempted to watch fireworks through the foggy haze. it was actually a pretty kick-ass weekend.
though somewhere in that weekend i went to liz's and saw pictures of her foot blown up 6 times its size from flesh-eating bacteria. JESUS. if you get a cut and your body part swells like a huge fucking balloon, GO TO THE DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY! she had to get a SKIN GRAFT off her hip! and she's been immoble for three weeks. yeesh. i did not know that flesh eating bacteria is all over the fucking place now. gawd. i'm getting all itchy thinking about it.
maybe i'll post pictures later or something. but i rented the first 2 discs of the first season of six feet under, so i'm gonna go back to watching that now. ciao!
